Could design transform the average citizen into an emergency first aid hero?

This is the question Ella answers with her project, Aid Assistant: AI-powered support that offers everyday people the confidence to perform emergency first aid. With just 5% of adults admitting they have the skills and confidence to provide medical assistance in a critical situation, this app-based virtual assistant provides an immediate, reassuring service.

Using UX-driven design, Ella was inspired by AI-powered assistants such as Siri and Alexa to offer a persona that’s a step away from the stuffy, formal tone of medical literature, taking a more personable approach inspired by emergency call handlers: reassuring, but authoritative. The resulting anthropomorphic character, Aida, is based on an orangutan, a friendly and relatable figure.
